Basketball in one minute
The goal
Two teams try to put the ball through the hoop. Each team has 5 players on the court.
Points
A basket from inside the big arc is 2 points. From behind the arc it is 3 points. A free throw is 1 point.
Free throw
After a foul, a player shoots from the free throw line while everyone else waits. It's a calm, focused shot.
Dribbling and traveling
To move with the ball, bounce it as you go. Walking with the ball without bouncing it is called traveling.
Fouls
Pushing, grabbing, or hitting another player is a foul. The other team gets the ball or free throws.
Half-time
Games are split into parts with a break in the middle. Teams rest, drink water, and make a plan together.
The Code of the Court
- Greet players before and after the game.
- Cheer for your teammates, and clap for great plays by the other team too.
- Help someone up if they fall.
- Respect the referee's call, even when you disagree.
- Win with kindness. Lose with grace.
- Make sure everyone gets a turn with the ball.
Greetings around the world
People show respect in different ways: a bow in Japan and Korea, a handshake, a fist bump, a hand on the heart. A kind move is to ask, "How do you like to say hi?"
What Heart Court is for
Heart Court is creative play for practicing patience, naming feelings, and bouncing back after a miss. The shot gets steadier when players wait for the focus ring to fill, so slowing down is built into how the game works. Misses are never punished.
Please know
Creative play, not therapy. Heart Court is not medical or mental health care and is not a substitute for it. Nothing is saved or sent anywhere: no feelings, scores, or photos leave this device. No camera or microphone is used. Play works best with a caring adult nearby.
Talk about it together
- Which feeling did you pick? Did it change while you played?
- What helped after a miss?
- When could waiting a moment help in real life?
- Who could you cheer for this week?
With warmth and wonder,
