About this tradition
Kwanzaa is an African American and Pan-African cultural celebration created by Dr. Maulana Karenga in 1966 and observed from December 26 through January 1. Its seven principles invite reflection on unity, self-determination, collective responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith, honoring family, community and African heritage.
Kwanzaa is a cultural celebration, not a religious holiday; people of different faiths may observe it, and participation varies.
Try a little creative play
Invent something that would make your community more beautiful or helpful. Draw it and give it a name.
Print, draw, and share in your own way. Every activity is optional. Creative play, not therapy.
Created by Dr. Jamie J. Karia, DSW, LCSW.
