About this tradition

In the United States, Thanksgiving is observed on the fourth Thursday of November, often through a shared meal and expressions of gratitude. Its history also includes colonization and the experiences of Native peoples; Wampanoag traditions of giving thanks long predate the national holiday, and some Native people observe a Day of Mourning.

This edition refers to U.S. Thanksgiving; other countries have different dates and traditions, and Native perspectives are diverse.
